摘要 PURPOSE: A method and system for detecting a distance between vehicles using the shadow of the leading vehicle of the vehicles are provided to inform the detected distance of a user by detecting a region of which the brightness is under a predetermined critical value in an interest region for detecting the rear shadow of the leading vehicle in the image of the front road of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting a distance between vehicles using the shadow of the leading vehicle of the vehicles includes: a step(S1) of photographing an image of the front road of the vehicle using a camera; a step(S2) of converting the photographed image of the front road into a gray scale image; and a step(S3) of computing the distance by detecting a region of which the brightness is under a predetermined critical value in an interest region for detecting the rear shadow of the leading vehicle in the gray scale image. In the step(S3), the distance is computed with the pixel coordinates of the interest region and the pixel coordinates of the region of the brightness is under a predetermined critical value.
