PURPOSE: An AP(Access Point) scanning method for a portable terminal and a device thereof are provided to reduce power consumption and to rapidly connect to an AP by scanning the AP. CONSTITUTION: A key input unit(27) receives a key input of a user. A local area communication module(40) provides a local area wireless communication function according to IEEE 802.11 standard. A display unit(50) outputs diverse display information. A control unit(10) confirms whether a use request of a portable terminal is sensed through the key input unit. When the use request of the portable terminal is sensed, a scanning process is additionally executed for a specific AP.
