The device (D) has a calculation unit (MC) for determining minimum diameter of an electric cable (CE1) for which internal temperature is stabilized below critical temperature of destruction. The cable is broken up into a set of basic cells. A central cell representative of a conducting core is selected. Internal temperature of the cable is determined by numerically solving a common equation provided in a matrix form. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer (2) a method for dimensioning an electric cable.
