PURPOSE: A multimedia device and a controlling method are provided to allow a viewer to automatically watch a broadcasting program on-air after watching a recorded program if the recorded program and the original broadcasting time of the recorded program overlap. CONSTITUTION: A multimedia device searches a broadcasting program which matches with a recorded broadcasting program(S1350). The multimedia device compares a broadcasting starting time of the searched broadcasting program and an ending time of the broadcasting program on-air(S1360). If the broadcasting starting time and the ending time overlap, the multimedia device replays the searched broadcasting program after the broadcasting program on-air ends(S1370-S1390).
