PURPOSE: A variable information recording system for a vehicle breakdown code and a method thereof are provided to store several vehicle breakdown codes in a memory according to the priorities of data stored when the several vehicle breakdown codes are simultaneously generated, thereby improving the efficiency of using a memory. CONSTITUTION: In a method for a flexible information recording system for a vehicle breakdown code, an electronic controlling unit(120) determines whether a vehicle is breakdown or not. The method comprises the steps of: in case a breakdown of the vehicle occurs, storing inherent information for the predetermined vehicle breakdown code and corresponding variables related to other basic information about the vehicle status in a non-volatile memory(125) of the electronic controlling unit; and storing the vehicle breakdown code, the inherent information for the predetermined vehicle breakdown code, and other basic information of the vehicle status, which are stored in the non-volatile memory, in an EEPROM in the status of after-run. In case breakdowns of the vehicle simultaneously occur, the method further includes a step of storing additional basic information of the vehicle status in the preset order.
