The method involves injecting petrol into a cylinder of a thermal engine before combustion of air mixture/petrol, where the combustion process is carried out in an operating cycle. Addition petrol is continuously injected during a part of combustion of the air mixture/petrol in a periodical manner after a specified number of operating cycles. Information representing a flow of the petrol injected by an injector during injection process before combustion is determined before carrying out the additional injection.
