PURPOSE: A composition containing modafinil or a derivative thereof is provided to be used as a pharmaceutical composition or a health functional food for preventing or treating vascular diseases through blood vessel relaxation by increasing intracellular cAMP. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating vascular diseases contains modafinil, modafinil derivative compounds of chemical formulas 2-5, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The vascular diseases are selected from the group consisting of hypertension, ischemic coronary artery diseases, occlusion of cerebral arteries, perirheral arterial occlusive disease, thromboembolism, diabetic foot lesion, venous ulcer, deep vein thrombosis, atherosclerosis, angiospasm, and arteritis. The composition additionally contains a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. A method for preventing or treating vascular diseases of animals exclusive of humans comprises a step of administering the composition to an individual. |
