PURPOSE: An image encoding method in an intra-prediction mode and a device thereof are provided to increase encoding efficiency of the intra-prediction mode by including modes, which are the same as the intra-prediction mode of a current block, in a first group corresponding to an effective intra-prediction mode of left and right blocks of the current block. CONSTITUTION: An image encoding device determines an intra-prediction mode of a current block(S210). The image encoding device generates an MPM group of the current block(S220). When the intra-prediction mode is included in the MPM group, the image encoding device determines a prediction mode index which specifies a flag showing the MPM group and the intra-prediction mode of the MPM group(S230,S240). When the intra-prediction mode is not included in the MPM group, the image encoding device determines a prediction mode index which specifies the intra-prediction mode among intra-prediction modes excluding intra-prediction modes of the MPM group and a flag which does not show the MPM group(S250).
