PURPOSE: A moisture absorbent using porous silica and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to have fast moisture absorbency in order to maintain the freshness of package for a long term, to have an excellent moisture absorption capability applicable in any relative humidity in the atmosphere, and to be stable so as to be enough not to re-discharge the absorbed moisture and to occur no smell. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of a moisture absorbent comprises the following steps: a step of preparing 60-80 weight% of porous silica and 20-40 wt% of aqueous solution of chlorides; a step of inputting prepared materials in a mixing basin and mixing at a seed of 50-100 rpm for 20-40 minutes; and a step of inputting the mixture in a dryer, and heating and drying at 100deg.C or less for 5 hours. The aqueous solution of chlorides is any one between sodium chloride aqueous solution and calcium chloride aqueous solution. The porous silica is white powder of 0.2-0.3 of specific gravity with no smell. The drying reduction of the porous silica is 7% or less and contains SiO2 over 94%.
