<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which can appropriately control a light source and a light modulation element by performing light quantity detection more highly correlated to light contributing to image display. <P>SOLUTION: An inventive projector 1 comprises: an illuminating device 2; a polarization separation element for separating light emitted from the illuminating device 2 into first polarized light and second polarized light, having respectively directions of polarization orthogonal to each other; reflection type liquid crystal panels 4R, 4G, and 4B for modulating the polarization state of one of the first polarized light and the second polarized light; a light sensor 36 for detecting the light quantity of the other polarized light; a control part for controlling at least one of the illuminating device 2 and the reflection type liquid crystal panels 4R, 4G, and 4B on the basis of a result of detection of the light quantity; and a first diaphragm 37 and a second diaphragm 38 for transmitting plarized light incident on a light detection surface of the light sensor 36 at a small incident angle with higher transmittance than that to polarized light incident on the light detection surface at a relatively large incident angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
