<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cover an exposed part in which an opening/closing mechanism part for opening and closing a cover part for covering an original platen is exposed regardless of the position of the cover part. <P>SOLUTION: A projection part 308 of a protective cover 300 abuts on an end part 50A of a platen cover 50 to stop rotation of the protective cover by its own weight. And, the center of gravity G of the protective cover 300 in a state where the projection part 308 abuts on the end part 50A of the platen cover 50 to stop rotation is more distant from the platen cover 50 than a rotating shaft 232.
