The instant application discloses an image forming apparatus including housing with cover member for covering and uncovering opening in communication with internal space, drive portion for generating drive force which is intermittently transmitted by clutch mechanism. Clutch mechanism includes transmission member with first transmission portion which receives drive force from drive portion and second transmission portion which engages with image forming portion; link mechanism which reciprocates transmission member in first direction in which transmission member moves away from image forming portion and second direction opposite to first direction; and flexible linker which connects cover member to link mechanism. When cover member uncovers opening, link mechanism coordinating with cover member by means of linker moves transmission member in first direction. When cover member covers opening, link mechanism coordinating with cover member moves transmission member in second direction.
