A method, using conventional technology, for readily determining whether or not a prescribed external device connected by a first transmission path is also connected by a second transmission path has been disclosed, however consideration has not been given to a method that executes a requested operation if the requested operation cannot be executed by the second transmission path (or the first transmission path). Provided is a transmission/reception method for video signals in a first device and a second device connected via a first network and a second network, which has: a step in which information requesting the execution of a prescribed function is sent from the first device to the second device via the first network; and a step in which the prescribed function is executed by the second device, using the second network and on the basis of the information requesting the execution of the prescribed function.
