PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting the rotor position of an electric motor for a vehicle and a method for compensating the rotor position are provided to reduce the vibration and noise of the electric motor by compensating for the position coordinate value of a rotor with an X or a Y weighted value. CONSTITUTION: A rotor position detecting apparatus(100) includes a sensor part(110) and a rotator position detecting part(120). The sensor part includes two hall sensors formed on the stator of an electric motor. The hall sensor outputs an analog electric signal for indicating the position information of the rotor by the change of the inner resistance value. The rotator position detecting part converts the analog electric signal into a digital electric signal. A motor controlling part(200) controls the operation of the electric motor based on the position information.
