An image display apparatus of an embodiment of the present invention is provided with: an image displaying means for displaying a parallax image on a display screen; a first coordinates calculating means for calculating virtual spatial coordinates of a three-dimensional image to be recognized by an observer of the parallax image; a second coordinates calculating means for calculating the spatial coordinates of a manipulation object that is the object to be manipulated by the observer; and an event generating means. When the distance between at least one set of spatial coordinates of the three-dimensional image calculated by the first coordinates calculating means, and at least one set of spatial coordinates of the manipulation object calculated by the second coordinates calculating means becomes equal to or less than a prescribed threshold value, the event generating means will generate a prescribed event that will be accompanied by a change in the parallax image and/or an image on the display screen other than the parallax image.
