<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide articles of footwear including modules for sensing physical and/or physiological characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The article 100 of footwear includes: a housing, optionally an asymmetrical housing, for receiving an electronic module 102; release mechanisms for removably mounting the module 102 in the housing; and/or activation/authentication systems for selectively activating the module 102. Additionally, methods of making the articles of footwear or other structures that include such housings, electronic modules 102, release systems, activation systems, authentication systems, etc. are described.
