<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centrifugal compression facility and a method for preventing surging therein, allowing detection delay from occurrence of surging to detection of the surging to be short, allowing occurrence of vibration, pressure fluctuation and noise to be prevented, allowing a capacity control range to be substantially extended, and allowing a surge line to be automatically updated following variation in operation environment and operation characteristics due to secular change. <P>SOLUTION: Provided are a centrifugal compressor 12 for centrifugally compressing gas 1, an electric motor 14 for rotatably driving the centrifugal compressor, a drive current detector 16 for the electric motor, and an exhaust valve 18 for exhausting a compressed gas 2 to a lower pressure section 3. The drive current is detected at a sampling frequency. A value "moving average-n×standard deviation" for which a plurality of drive currents measured at a sampling interval serves as a population, is updated as a current threshold in real time. It is determined that a surge has occurred when the exhaust valve 18 is closed and the drive current is below the current threshold, and in the event that a surge has occurred, the exhaust valve 18 is opened for exhausting the compressed gas 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
