PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material having superior recording image quality and thermal response of a halftone area, and also having superior strength of a coated layer.

SOLUTION: In a heat-sensitive recording material having an intermediate layer and a thermal recording layer that develops color by heat on a support in this order, the intermediate layer contains the hollow resin and the reaction product of irreducible disaccharide or saccharide and the alkylene oxide of carbon numbers 2-4.
