<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing glass substrates for magnetic disks whereby dimension tolerance of the inside diameter of a circular hole at a central part can be sufficiently reduced, and the inner-peripheral end face can be mirror-like finished while shape unevenness of the inner-peripheral end face is sufficiently reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing glass substrates for magnetic disks includes: an end face grinding step for grinding the outer-peripheral end face and the inner-peripheral end face of a circular hole 1; and an end face polishing step for polishing the end faces after the end face grinding step. In the end face grinding step, the surface roughness of a chamfered face of the end face is defined to have roughness lower than the surface roughness of the inner-peripheral end face excluding the chamfered face.
