<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing metal powder which can make particle diameter larger more easily compared to the conventional production method by providing a simple production process. <P>SOLUTION: The method is used for producing metal powder in which iron-based metal particles are provided with a carbon insulating film.The method includes: first heat treatment of calcining iron oxide powder in the range of 700 to 1,200°C; and second heat treatment of mixing the calcined iron oxide powder with carbon powder, and performing heat treatment in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
