VARIFOCAL LENS AND IMAGING DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a varifocal lens which has an interface between two different kinds of liquids as a light refracting surface capable of precisely controlling the position of the interface between the two liquids.

SOLUTION: A varifocal lens 14 includes: a first liquid chamber 31 storing a first liquid L1 and a second liquid chamber 32 storing a second liquid L2; an interface holding plate 22 disposed so as to partition the two liquid chambers, which includes a through hole communicating the two liquid chambers for allowing a beam of light to pass therethrough; and an actuator 35 that varies the pressure or volume of at least one of the first and second liquids. The interface holding plate has an interface holding part for holding the interface within the through hole or the periphery thereof. The interface has a first surface area that is lyophilic with the first liquid and lyophobic with the second liquid at the first liquid chamber side with respect to the interface holding part; and a second surface area that is lyophilic with the second liquid and lyophobic with the first liquid at the second liquid chamber side with respect to the interface holding part.
