<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a luminance signal and a color information signal having high S/N ratios. <P>SOLUTION: In an image pickup element 3, unit pixel sections 31 each including a ye pixel, an R pixel, a Blk pixel, and a W pixel with a visible wavelength region and an infrared wavelength region as sensitive wavelength bands are arrayed in a matrix.
