The invention relates to a method of managing data streams between a producer and a consumer according to the technique of "credits", comprising the steps consisting in decrementing a credit counter on each emission of a series of data by the producer; ceasing to emit data when the credit counter reaches zero; despatching a credit each time the consumer has consumed a series of data; and incrementing the credit counter on receipt of the credit. The size Wc of the data that can be used by the consumer and the size Wp of the data emitted by the producer are such that Wc/Wp > 1, and the credit, in terms of number of data of size Wc, is expressed by: C = (Na - Q.F)/Q where Na is the space available, in terms of number of data of size Wc, in an input queue (10) of the consumer that is provided for storing the data awaiting consumption, Q a factor such that 1 < Q <= Wc/Wp, and F the number of data not yet received in the queue and corresponding to credits dispatched.
