PURPOSE: A method for diagnosing an operating state of a contactor and the contactor for implementing the said method are provided to diagnose the wearing of the contactor, as not requesting any of current sensors and voltage sensors at a power contact level. CONSTITUTION: According to a method for diagnosing an operating state of a contactor, a drop-out order including to determine a drop-out voltage at terminals (L1,L2) of an active coil(3) is transmitted. Electrical characteristic of the operation coil is measured during the drop-out time. A specific value is reconfigured from measured values. The specific value is compared with a specific initial operation reference value. Wearing state of the contactor is diagnosed according to the positioning of the specific value as to the initial reference value. The contactor includes a processing unit(2), the active coil, a unit(24) measuring the electrical characteristics of the active coil and a free wheel diode(D1). The processing unit is designed to operate with a voltage control unit(20). The free wheel diode is connected in parallel with the active coil and the measuring unit.
