<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique impossible for glass and single crystals by applying a polycrystal terbium oxide sintered compact having excellent translucency to a field not applying conventional glass and single crystals only containing terbium oxide partly. <P>SOLUTION: A translucent terbium oxide sintered compact for magneto-optical elements is a cubic system polycrystal sintered compact whose main ingredient is Tb<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>and which contains a rare earth element except Tb, has a porosity of 0.2% or less, has an in-line transmittance per 3 mm length of 70% or more at wavelengths of both 1.06 μm and 532 nm, and includes 2×10<SP POS="POST">22</SP>or more Tb<SP POS="POST">3+</SP>ions for 1 cm<SP POS="POST">3</SP>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
