The machine has an adjusting mechanism for adjusting height of a pressure plunger (27) and comprising bracing cylinders (22.1, 22.2) and an actuator lifting of the plunger. The cylinders are attached to a device for periodically lowering bracing pressure and forming bracing pressure during the running of the machine. A cylinder (25) is attached to the bracing cylinder and provided for periodically loading the bracing cylinder with pressure. An adjusting device is attached to a driver and brake disk, and a tappet (26) is attached to the cylinder. A brake device comprises a brake disk. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an adjusting mechanism for adjusting height of a plunger (2) a method for operating an automatic punching machine.
