[Also in Division B4] In order to compensate for variations in the dimensions of record cards caused by fluctuations in humidity, a hygrometer 3 selects one of a number of timing pulse trains occurring at slightly different time intervals in accordance with the prevailing humidity. The timing pulse trains are generated by photo-cells A2, B2, C2 co-operating with concentric sets of apertures 6 in a disc 5 which rotates in synchronism with the card feed, and the selected pulse train is used to gate the signals from a sensing station or to control a punching machine. A delay device 4 allows the cards time to adjust themselves to changes in humidity before the corresponding timing pulse train is selected. |
