<p>A waste disposal apparatus 2 for disposing of waste materials using aerobic decomposition, includes a decomposition chamber 14 having a waste inlet (34; fig 1) for receiving waste materials, a waste outlet (70; fig 9) for discharging waste materials from the chamber after aerobic decomposition, a sieve element 16 located within the decomposition chamber 14 between the inlet and the outlet, and a load or weight sensor (90; fig 10) for sensing the quantity of waste material within the decomposition chamber, the load sensor being configured to sense the load supported by the sieve element 16. Ideally, the load sensor is connected to a lowermost point of sieve element and comprises load cell (92; fig 10) connected to a rod (94; fig 10) which engages the sieve element 16. The apparatus may further comprise a control system and alarm device for signally a fully loaded condition. A closure member (12; fig 1) for the inlet may comprise a locking device (36; fig 1) which is activated by the control system when the apparatus is fully loaded. A method of operation is also disclosed.</p> |
