The invention comprises monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1005233/C4-C5/1> wherein A and C are hydrogen or halogen atoms, nitro, C1-C4 alkyl, carboxylic acid ester groups with 1-4 carbon atoms in the alcohol component or carboxylic acid amide groups which may be N-substituted by C1-C4 alkyl groups, B is a hydrogen or halogen atom, or a carboxylic acid ester or amide group as defined above, D is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1-C4 alkyl group and X is a hydrogen or halogen atom, the radical of a diazo component containing a nitro, carboxylic acid amide or ester group or at least one halogen atom. The dyes are prepared by the usual process by coupling a suitable diazotized aniline with a 1,2di-phenyl-3,5-dioxo-pyrazolidine. The dyes may be used as pigments or to dye polyester fibres in yellow shades. They may also be used in admixture with blue anthraquinone dyes. |
