1,006,859. Rotary-piston I.C. engines. DAIMLER-BENZ, A.G. Sept. 25, 1964 [Sept. 26, 1963], No. 39280/64. Heading F1F. A rotary-piston I.C. engine of trochoidal type having a light metal casing 1, is sprayed internally with a wear resistant metallic coating 3, such as chromium-containing steel or carbon steel. To prevent the forcing of lubricant and air bubbles into the normally porous wear resistant coating and thus the loss of lubrication between the piston and casing, the coating is infilled over a considerable portion of the piston track extending in the direction of piston rotation, from the inlet port to the spark-plug position, with a phenol resin. This is applied in liquid form and subsequently solidifies. To provide emergency lubrication, the phenol resin may be impregnated with colloidal graphite, molybdenum disulphide or zinc sulphide.
