Cyclohexanone is prepared by heating a mixture of cyclohexanol and phenol at about 170 DEG C. in the liquid phase in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, whereby the cyclohexanol is dehydrogenated to cyclohexanone and simultaneously the phenol is hydrogenated to cyclohexanol. In carrying out the process the reaction products may be distilled off continuously or periodically and replaced by further cyclohexanol and phenol. Nickel together with aluminium oxide is given as an example of a hydrogenation catalyst. |
