[Also in Divisions B6 and G4] A record card 1, Fig. 1, is advanced step-bystep through a processing station in a punching machine by moving the card forward intermittently and, after each forward movement, moving the card backwards so as to abut against successive stop-members 14. The intermittent forward movement may be obtained by means of a recessed roller 4, and the backward movement by a pair of continuouslydriven rollers 8, 9. Rollers 8, 9 may be skewed to align one edge of the card against edge 13 of support plate 2. Column skipping may be achieved by the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, a roller 18 being brought into engagement with the recessed portion of roller 4 for normal stepby-step advancement of the card, and a roller 19 being brought into engagement with the continuous surface 17 of roller 4 to effect column skipping. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, two rollers are eccentrically mounted on shafts carried by a reciprocating frame 22. Arms 28, 29 are rigidly attached to the rollers and are biased together by a spring 30. As frame 22 moves forward, the card 1 is gripped between the rollers and is advanced thereby, and when frame 22 moves backwards, card 1 moves backwards until it is stopped by a member 14, and thereafter the rollers slip over the card and ensure that it is correctly aligned. Card feed may be interrupted by forcing arms 28, 29 apart by means of a cam. |
