990,939. Artificial respiration apparatus. J. A. ARECHETA MOTA. Oct. 12, 1962 [Oct. 24, 1961], No. 38748/62. Heading A5T. A resuscitator, which either includes a face mask or may be mounted on a face mask or endotracheal tube, comprises two bellows 1, 2 each having an inlet and an outlet valve 9, 10, 15, 16 and operable together, a stroke in one direction causing one bellows to fill with air from the mask or endotracheal tube and the other bellows to fill with air from outside the apparatus and a stroke in the other direction causing air to pass from the other bellows to the mask or endotracheal tube and from the one bellows to atmosphere. The bellows 1, 2 are concentric and have common upper and lower end plates 3, 4. An inner chamber 26 is formed by the inner bellows 1 and communicates with the atmosphere through one-way inlet valves 9, and through one-way outlet valves 15 with a chamber defined between the lower end plate 4 and a further end plate 18 connected with the mask. An outer chamber 27 formed between the bellows communicates with the chamber between the plates 4, 18 through oneway inlet valves 16 and with the atmosphere through one-way outlet valves 10. The valves are protected by perforate metal screens 17. An air inlet tube 14, 12 mounted on the upper end plate serves as a handle for collapsing and expanding the bellows. The valves mounted in the lower end plate are spring-loaded to open under a pressure differential of 10 cms. water. |
