A vehicle has a boot lid 11 biased to the open position by two torsion bars 13, 15, each bar acting as the hinge pin and hinge arm for the boot lid. Each bar comprises a first portion 29 journalled to one side of the body in a bracket 25 and secured to the other side of the body by brackets 35, 41 and a second V-shaped portion 27 secured to the lid by means of a bracket 31. Slots in the bracket 41 permit adjustment of the torsion in the portion 29 of the bar. In the almost fully open position V-shaped projections 19 on brackets 17 contact the V-shaped portions 27 of the torsion bar and wedge these V-shaped portions open, thus absorbing any excess opening force to stop the lid from being abruptly arrested. |
