A reinforcement plate for attachment to an I-joist weakened by the removal of a portion of its web volume comprises two or more sheet-like portions for placement against a generally planar surface of an I-joist. An edge of one of said two or more sheet-like portions is configured to define at least part of a closed opening in the reinforcement plate, said opening configured to be aligned with the weakened portion of the I-joist. The edge comprises a continuous flange depending there from and upstanding from the plane of the two or more sheet-like portions, and the edge of one of the two or more sheet-like portions is configured to be positioned proximate the edge of another one of the two or more sheet-like portions such that together the edges of the two or more sheet-like portions collectively define the closed opening in the reinforcement plate. The opening is dimensioned such that the or each continuous flange about the opening is locatable proximate the top and bottom flanges of an I-joist. The invention further relates to an I-joist assembly comprising an I-joist weakened by removal of a portion of its web and a reinforcement plate attached thereto. |
