An internal combustion chamber hot blast stove comprises a chequer chamber 3, a combustion chamber 2 and a dividing wall 21 which comprises a cavity 23. The cavity 23 is connected to a gas inlet 22 and a gas outlet 26. The stove is operated by supplying fuel gas to the combustion chamber 2 where it is burnt to form combustion products which heat the chequer chamber 3, supplying a gas such as nitrogen or air into the cavity 23 via the gas inlet 22 and removing a mixture of this gas and uncombusted fuel gas from cavity 23 via the gas outlet 26. The supply of gas to the cavity 23 is stopped before starting to heat cold blast in the chequer chamber 3. |
