摘要 Compounds containing groups of formula -N(R1)-SO2CH2CH(R2)O.SO3H wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen, C1-C6 alkyl or cyclohexyl are prepared by reacting amines with carbyl sulphate. They are used as components in the preparation of azo dyes (see Division C4). 3 - (N - methyl - N - ethionylamino) - 1 - aminobenzene is prepared by reacting 1-nitro-3-N-methylaniline with carbyl sulphate and catalytic reduction of the nitro group: 4-chloro-3-(N - methyl - N - ethionylamino) - aniline, 3 - N - ethionylamino - 4 - methoxtaniline, 4 - (N - methyl - N - ethionylamino) - aniline, 2 - amino - 5 - N - ethionylamino - 1,4 - dimethoxybenzene, 4 - methyl - 3 - N - ethionylamino - aniline, 4 - (N - butyl - N - ethionylamino) - aniline, 3 - chloro - 6 - (N - methyl - N - ethionylamino) - aniline and 4 - methyl - 3 - (N - methyl - N - ethionylamino) - aniline are similarly prepared. 1 - (41 - N - methyl - N - ethionylaminophenyl) -3 - methyl - 5 - hydroxy - pyrazole is prepared by condensing the corresponding amino compound with carbyl sulphate. 2 - (N - methyl - N - ethionylamino) - 4 -(31 - aminobenzoylamino) - toluene is prepared by condensing 4-methyl-3-(N-methyl-N-ethionyl-amino)-aniline with 3-nitrobenzoyl chloride and subsequent catalytic reduction. 1 - (21,31 - Hydroxynaphthoylamino) - 3 - (N - methyl - N - ethionylamino) - benzene is prepared by condensing 2-hydroxy-naphthalene-3-carb-oxylic acid chloride with 3-(N-methyl-N-ethionylamino)-aniline. Specification 830,920 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises azo dyes of formula <FORM:0999877/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 and R2 are each a hydrogen atom, a C1-C6 alkyl radical or a cyclohexyl radical, D is an aromatic radical which may contain an azo group, K is the radical of a coupling component, n is 0, 1 or 2, at least one n being 1 or 2, m is 0 or 1, x is 1, 2 or 3 and r and y are 1 or 2 and the radicals D and K may contain further water-solubilizing groups. The dyes are prepared by the coupling reaction using appropriately substituted components (see Division C2). The dyes are water-insoluble and may be used to colour wool, silk, leather, polyamides or polyurethanes by the usual processes, but are preferably used to dye cellulose materials in the presence of an acid-binding agent.
