A wave energy conversion system 100 has an aerofoil shaped paddle 130 which is driven by wave movements. Waves push the concave face of the paddle 130, which drives a generator 200 via gearing 250, 260. The paddle may be biased to return to its starting position substantially perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation. A flap valve 150, 160 in the paddle allows water to flow in the reverse direction through the paddle with reduced obstruction. The paddle may be mounted close to the surface, and may follow variations in water level e.g. tidal changes. The paddle shape can reduce unwanted turbulence, and the convex face may include a ridge (510, figures 7 and 8)
|
