The screen 15, Fig. 2, for a separator is tensioned between, and held by, a pair of clamping rings 1, 7 having confronting cylindrical walls 4, 8 and confronting annular end walls 2, 9 extending radially inwardly from the respective cylindrical walls, yieldable means, such as a rubber ring 18, being provided between the screen and one of the end walls in the region of emergence of the screen therefrom to minimize stress concentration of the screen in that region. As shown, the screen is mounted between the flanges of adjacent cylindrical shells 13 of a vibratory separator by means of a gasket 12 and clamping ring 14. The screen may be manufactured, as shown in Figs. 4 and 6, by tacking the screen 15 to a board 16 and applying the ring 18 and a friction ring 21 of for example woven glass tape before clamping the rings 1 and 7 together by screws 19 ; separation of the rings is facilitated by bosses 20 tapped for jack screws. |
