[Also in Division G2] A scale reading magnifier mounted on a slide rule cursor comprises a cylindrical lens having its axis arranged parallel with the graduation marks on the slide rule, wherein the central part of the magnifier profile is convex while its border zones are concave towards the direction of viewing. The magnifier profile may be formed by sections of parabolas, circles, cosine curves, for example, each two parts of the profile being smoothly joined at a point having a tangent common to both curves. In this way the whole part of the scale beneath the cursor can be viewed, the central portion being magnified and the border zones being reduced in size. |
