The hydraulic control valve 1 for an automatic change-speed gear is mounted in a ported sleeve 2 rotatable by a gear pinion 3 and is regulated by a centrifugal governor 12 with a loading spring 20 surrounding the valve stem 6 and bearing against an adjustable screwed sleeve 17 carried by a member 15 to which the upper ends of the governor arms 13 are pivoted. A second spring 4 is provided in the enlarged upper end of sleeve 2. The latter is provided with supply and exhaust ports 24, 26, and pressure outlet ports 25, the ports 24, 26 being closed by the valve lands 22, 23 when in the central position. The space 29 between the valve lands communicates with a space 30 below the valve by a passage 27, 28 and in the balanced central position of the valve the pressure in these spaces is proportional to the rotational speed of sleeve 2, opening of exhaust and supply ports 26, 24 resulting from increase or decrease of speed respectively. The upper governor arms 13 are longer than the lower arms 9, their lengths being respectively about three times and twice the radial distance of their pivots 10, 14 from the governor axis.</p> |
