The curved surfaces of hot glass articles are decorated with coloured frit particles which are electrostatically applied to the articles from an offset plate imaged by a screen stencilling process. The apparatus shown, Fig. 1, for individually decorating curved surfaces of hot glass articles B comprises a conveyer 80 for moving the articles to a decoration transfer station and an endless conveyer 60 for transporting a plurality of offset plates 62 from a screen stencilling station 78 to the transfer station in a step-by-step movement synchronized with the transport of the articles to the transfer station. The offset plates are imaged with electrically chargeable frit particles by the screen stencilling process and each article is decorated at the transfer station by applying a voltage potential between the article and the associated imaged plate whilst rolling the article relative to the plate. Each offset plate may be screen imaged at a plurality of stencilling stations each applying a different coloured frit. Alternatively the stencilling stations PA1, PA2, PA3, Fig. 14 (plan), may be simultaneously actuated to apply images to all the offset plates 210 of a first group, each step of movement of the plates being of a length such that upon movement of said first group of plates from the stencilling stations a second group of plates equal in number to the first group is registered therewith. At the transfer station PS1, PS2, PS3 all the imaged plates of a group are simultaneously registered with a corresponding number of articles B for the simultaneous transfer of images from the plates to the articles. After use the offset plates are cleaned by a brush 238. Each offset plate, which is mounted on a carrier supported on the endless conveyer, is either automatically pivoted into image transferring relationship with an article at the transfer station or is automatically removed therefrom temporarily for the transfer operation. The latter method is used for printing on frusto-conical articles such as tumblers. Screen-stencilling apparatus.-This apparatus comprises a powder container 78, Fig. 2, having a bottom defined by a stencil screen 116. The offset plate 112 is elevated into face-to-face contact with the screen 116 and the latter is imaged by expressing particles through the image apertures by a pneumatically operated brush 120. In order to minimize the possibility of smearing the freshly imaged plate is swung away from the underside of the screen 116.</p>
