PURPOSE: A method of surface modification of a nickel-based superalloy by electron beam induced surface alloying is provided to obtain a protective coating that is stable in high-temperature oxidation conditions and thereby maintains the integrity of the nickel-based superalloy for long-time use. CONSTITUTION: A method of surface modification of a nickel-based superalloy by electron beam induced surface alloying comprises the steps of: grinding the surface of the nickel-based superalloy with a silicon carbide, depositing aluminum on the ground surface of the nickel-based superalloy, loading the superalloy in a vacuum chamber, and irradiating the superalloy with electron beams to form a micro-alloy layer on the superalloy surface. |
