A washing machine is provided to reduce time taken for draining by reducing resistance of a passage and to prevent damage of an impeller in winter by draining remaining water from a vortex chamber when operation of a drain pump is stopped. A washing machine comprises a drain motor, an impeller(50), a vortex chamber(41), and a pump casing having a vent passage(43). An internal wall of the vent passage includes a side wall(41a) and an upper/lower wall(41b). The impeller is rotated by the drain motor. The water is discharged from the vortex chamber to the vent passage. The side wall is extended from circumferential direction of a side wall of the vortex chamber. The upper/lower wall of the vent passage is paralleled to an upper and a lower wall of the vortex chamber respectively. |
