A hydro-pneumatic cylinder for converting buoyancy energy of compressed gas into mechanical energy, comprises a pair of end plates 106 disposed at opposite ends of the cylinder and a drive axle 105 extending longitudinally through the cylinder and passing through the centre of each end plate. The cylinder also includes a core support 112 coupled to each end plate and centrally disposed in the cylinder and a plurality of vanes 110 for promoting a low-drag flow. Each of the plurality of vanes 110 is coupled to the core support 112 and the pair of end plates 106. A bucket is defined by the core support 112, two of the plurality of vanes 110, and the pair of end plates 106. The cylinder further includes a vane support 112 coupled to the plurality of vanes 110. The vane support 112 is substantially parallel to the end plates 106. The vane support 112 defines a plurality of openings 113 formed therein through which a gas can pass for equalizing pressure in the bucket area. |
