The measuring system has a transparent measuring plate (2), in which a body to-be measured is disposed. A lighting unit is arranged below the measuring plate, which illuminates the measuring plate and the body to-be measured from below. An optical pick up (6) is aligned from above or obliquely on the measuring plate in a gazing manner. The optical pick up is mechanically decoupled from the measuring plate and is freely movable. A geometric pattern (3) is applied on the measuring plate. An independent claim is included for a measurement method for measuring irregular shaped body, particularly for determining biometric data of foot of a person.
