<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a leg of a user. <P>SOLUTION: A footwear product has an upper 200 and a sole structure 300. The upper 200 has a foot portion 201 for receiving a foot and a leg portion 202 for receiving at least a portion of a leg. The sole structure 300 is secured to a lower area of the foot portion 201. The footwear includes at least one of a plate system, a hinge system, and a sole structure 300 formed of materials of different hardness, stiffness, or density. The plate system includes a plate that extends to the inner side part of the footwear. The plate may be formed of materials of different hardness (a), or may extend onto the sole structure and into recess in the sole structure (b). The hinge system includes a chassis 220 secured to the foot portion 201 and a beam 230 secured to the leg portion 202.
