The present disclosure relates to host cells containing a recombinant xylose reductase, a recombinant cellodextrin transporter, a recombinant intracellular beta-glucosidase, and lacking xylitol dehydrogenase and xylulokinase, and to methods of using such cells for producing xylitol from cellulosic biomass containing cellodextrin and xylose.
