A backlight device (illumination device) (12) comprises: LEDs (light sources) (17); a light guide plate (16) having an optical incidence face (16b) that is arranged facing the LEDs (17) and onto which is incident light from the LED (17) and an optical emission face (16a) that emits this incident light; a plurality of LED circuit boards (18) on which the LEDs (17) are mounted and whose board faces are arranged facing the optical incidence face (16b); and circuit board-side connectors (circuit board-side relays) (22) respectively provided on the plurality of LED circuit boards (18) for relaying power supply to the LEDs (17). These circuit board-side connectors (22) are constituted so as to be capable of concave/convex fitting, from either the front or rear side of the light guide plate (16), of a relay wiring member (relay member) (28) whereby a power source circuit board (power source) PWB and a circuit board-side connector (22) may be electrically connected.
