A feed device (2) feeds a mandrel (7) towards a heat transfer pipe (6) while holding said mandrel (7). The feed device (2) is disposed in the vicinity of a holding device (1). In this way, the mandrel (7) is subjected to the thrust of the feed device (2) in the vicinity of the heat transfer pipe (6). The thrust towards the mandrel (7) is therefore imparted in the vicinity of the heat transfer pipe (6), so buckling of the mandrel (7) can be prevented when the mandrel (7) is pressed into the heat transfer pipe (6) in order to expand the heat transfer pipe (6).
